Hyaluronic acid is a frequently used ingredient in skincare. Found in everything from moisturizers to face masks, many wonder if hyaluronic acid on its own is a serum because many acids are serums. So, is hyaluronic acid a serum?
If used in isolation, or with other similar ingredients, hyaluronic acid can be a serum. It is a powerful moisturizer. Though, unlike other serum ingredients, its protection from the sun and free radicals are limited. This is why–if included in serums–it often will include other ingredients such as Vitamin C to provide both moisture, free radical protection, and some mild exfoliation.
In our ferulic acid serum, we added hyaluronic acid to prevent a drying effect from the stronger acids. This also provides a level of moisture not seen in other ferulic acid serum products. Additionally, this may make our ferulic acid serum more bearable for more sensitive skin types.
